Halloween decorating Tips!

Halloween is just around the corner. It's one of my favorite holiday of the season. I love to decorate for Halloween. There is so much out there to choose!! One of the easiest way to decorate is by layering. It can take your decor to whole new level. It's simply. Here's how to do it.

Start with your favorite decor. I found these metal pumpkins at HomeGoods last year.

I brought some small-to-medium size pine cones from Michael's. You can purchase them at any local craft store.

These items come wrapped in a bunch. Very inexpensive. I took them apart and used florists tape to bind and secure them into smaller bunches.

I also purchased these as well. Different shapes and sizes. That will give it depth and interest.

These leaves actually came in a vine. I took them apart. Easy enough to do.

Next step is to layer them. First the leaves. I like to leave enough room so you can see them once I put my items on top.

Then come the pumpkins. You can chose any shape and size. Play with it until you get the right combination that you are pleased with.

Add the pine cones in different shapes and sizes.

Viola! The finished product!! You can add interest into an otherwise plain arrangement. Layering adds texture and depth to any center piece.

It works well with any decor you may have, for any holiday or special occasion. As you can see I added even more layers in this arrangement. Let your imagination run free! You'll be amazed at the results!!

Tufted anyone?

Have you noticed lately everything is tufted? Don't get me wrong, I love the tufted look. In fact, my sofa is tufted. But have you every noticed that when a trend becomes popular, it's everywhere?!! Recently I was in Macy's and noticed all the furniture that was tufted.

Tufted headboard with tufted ottoman

Leather tufted sofa

Sectional leather tufted sofa

This one is only tufted on the back and not on the seating area.

Tufted sofas has been around since the mid-18th century. Doesn't look like it's going away any time soon. It comes in all different fabric and shape. One thing is for sure, it's very popular. Tufted anyone?!!

Don't pass on damage pieces!!

How many times how you been in stores and have seen something marked down because it's damaged? Do you walk away from it? Yes? Well don't. Sometimes they are easy fixes and you can save a tremendous amount of money!

I recently was in Pier One, one of my favorite store, and saw this gem, a buffet. It was damaged and marked down to $417.99. Originally priced at $599.95. I got it marked down to $399.99. And I had a coupon for 20% off! It cost me $325 when it was all said and done!!

Then I got to work fixing the damage. Wasn't that hard. This is what I did.

Here is the piece I mentioned.

That was the original price.

As you can see, it's damaged!

First I tried Old English.

Didn't work. I can still see it.

Then I tried  Mini Wax Wood Finish stain maker. Not so good either!!

Finally I tried my preferred method (always works for me)

Mixing paint to get the right color and then applying it.

So much better!! Can hardly see it!!

Perfect!! So the next time you see a damaged item, think to yourself, "Can I fix it? Is it a simple fix?" If the answer is yes, then go for it!!

Antique Shopping Find!!

If you love antiquing, you can find great buys out there. Just make sure you have the space for it, or it becomes clutter. I found this cute table for $15 and though "What a deal". So I brought it and took it home for some tender loving care.

Here is the table before any work was done to it.

I brought a can of silver spray paint, went outside and started to paint.

I then went to a local mirror store and had them cut small square mirrors for the side and one round one for the top. The end result, spectacular!! Easily sell for $275 retail. Bottom line, total cost $95!! Love it!!
