N-Hance Wood Renewal!!

N-Hance is a revolutionary wood renewall product that is relatively new to the industry. What is it exactly? Well according to their advertising "it renews your wood cabinets and floor without dust, inconvenience and noxious fumes associated with traditional refinishing methods. In many cases, the process can be completed in just one day!" 

As a home stager and redesigner, I am always looking for options to pass along to my clients that are cost effective and not time consuming. This could very well be it. One of my clients recently had it done. The reason they chose it, is the very reason that was stated in the advertising, no mess and can be done in one day. I have  a strong feeling this will appeal to many people!!

OK, so what is it exactly? According to their advertising "Removes the dirt and grime build-up that can make wood look flat and lifeless over time. The renewal process thoroughly cleans the surface, removes old coatings, repairs damaged areas with less mess and applies an elegant finish"

It also gives you the options of three solution:

1. Basis renewal. No change of color. Has minimal wear on the wood surface. Basically your old cabinets will look new again.

   2.  Color shift. It will slightly warm the tone of the wood, leaving the beauty for the wood grain 

       in-tack.  Great for sun-faded areas. This will take 2-3 days to complete.

   3. Color change. This is a more dramatic effect. Usually the cabinets will go from light to dark, such 

      as oak to cherry. You can shop at Home Depot Design Center  and simply select any sample 

      cabinet color and they will match it. This will totally change the look of your kitchen and will typically 

      take 3-5 days to complete.

As you can see from these photos, very impressive. My client's kitchen is roughly 12x12 kitchen with no Island or Peninsula. I believe he is being charged around $3,000. Which in my opinion, is not bad. Cheaper then professional painting, which they were quoted a price of $4,000 and they would have to live through the smells. Refacing is probably 3x that amount!! This is a great option to offer your clients!! What do you think?

Building & organizing my shed

Building and organizing my shed was a time consuming project, but well worth the time and effort. I needed a shed to put all my tools and yard items. So, I brought one of those pre-fab shed and had my contractor, New Island Remodeling, put it together. They did a great job as usual!!

Reading those instruction was time consuming!!

We're almost there!!

Construction is done, now the fun begins! A lot of work on my part, but worth it. I painted the inside and the outside. Why you ask? Because it  brightened up the inside, and protects the outdoor against the elements.

This shed came with two shelves! Very handy, it allowed me to store my tables and outdoor area rug. I added hooks to hang items that were large or bulky.

I added a peg board and even added a table. This allows me to use it as a small work station. 

I labeled all my items. This way when my CHILDREN use the items, they know where to PUT IT BACK!! No excuses!!

I brought these white storage cubes from Home Depot. They are great because they are plastic. I brought  six of them. They come 2 in a pack.

I brought these fabric storage bins from Target. They're called Threshold Fabric Cube. They come in different colors. They fit perfectly in those white storage cubes.

I use PVC tubing and cut them on an angle, then nailed them to wood. This allowed me to store my long items, without taking up space!

Lastly, I use these hooks to hang my ladders, hose and eventually my snow shovels!!

It's not done until I add some piazza to it!! Couldn't help myself!!

Now it's all done. It gives me lots of storage space. I'm very proud of what I accomplished on my own!! But I'm not done yet. I will be adding cement (no I will not do it), sometime in the fall. This way, there won't be such a big step getting in or out of the shed.

Is it wood? Or is it something else?

Is it wood? Or is it something else? Wood flooring has been around for a very long time. But unfortunately, wood flooring was not always possible. Wood does not do well on concrete. It can also be very pricey. But today, there are so many wood-like products. You can have the look of wood, without the problem wood flooring can create.

Owen Carpet Company

Vinyl Flooring - Great for mud rooms, or any room that has a high traffic area. Easy to install. They have strips of adhesive that attaches to one another.

Procida Tiles

Ceramic or Porcelain Tiles - These tiles look so real, it's hard to tell the difference. They even have hand-scrap wood tiles. Great for kitchens and bathrooms.

Lumber Liquidators

Engineered Wood Floors - They are resistant to higher moisture levels. They can be glued down, and can be applied over concrete slabs.  There is a layer of real wood on the surface. Once installed, it's nearly impossible to differentiate between engineered and the "real thing". That's what makes them so popular. They are also less expensive then real wood flooring.

Home Depot

Laminate Floors - Relatively easy to install. They can be use over concrete slabs. Less expensive then wood, but they are made of recycled wood fiber, so if they get wet, they will expand. Laminate floors have come a long way since their introduction. The quality is much better. Nowadays they have a much more realistic "wood" look to them.

Armstrong 

Wood Flooring - Wood, nothing beats the real thing. Otherwise, why would they try so hard to replicate it? What is it they say, imitation is the best form of flattery. Wood must be very flattered indeed!!

With all the different types of "wood" flooring there is, it's easy to find the look of "wood" flooring, in the selection you like, and at the the price that you want to pay!!

Getting Organized in the kitchen!!

Getting organized in the kitchen can be a daunting task. But there are some rules that you can apply that will make the process easier. I recently tackled a kitchen for a client of mine. Here is how it went.

1. First, take stock of what you have.  This will come in handy when you are shopping for items and it's a great way to inventory. Taking pictures will help with the process!!

2. Empty out all the cupboards. You may need to set up tables to put your items on. This is the perfect time to give your cabinets a good cleaning.

3. Discard what you don't want. There may even be expired items that need to be thrown away.

4. Put like item with like items. For example, all the Tubberware lids with Tubberware lids, etc.

5. Think about adding rollout shelves. You can purchase them from Home Depot or the Container Store.

6. Take your time putting it back together.  You may even need to tweak it a bit once it's done.
