Five easy steps to prep your home for resale!!

Five easy steps to prep your home for resale. Are you looking to sell your home? Then these 5 easy step will help you get started.

1. Clean itMake sure your home is clean. Not just the surfaces, but all the hidden places. Buyers do
check out all the areas in your home, so don't assume they won't see it.

 2. Deodorize it. Now that your home is clean, does it smell clean? Pets and cooking odors can
linger, so make sure it can passes the "sniff test".

3. Fix it. Do you have cracked ceilings? Cracked tiles? Leaking faucets? Make sure you address all
issues.  If not, buyers will interpret this as a home that's been neglected!!  This in turn will low-
ball their offer!! They may even walk away thinking too much work needs to be done. Don't let
   this happen to you.

 4. Maximize it. Square footage sells. Is your home too cramped with furniture? A good rule of
thumb, eliminate about 50% of non-essentials from your home. Don't forget to check you
closets. Buyers will look for storage space.  My rule-of-thumb, nothing on the floor!!

5. Decorate it. Ok now that you've done the first 4 steps, it's time to decorate it. Buyers fall in love
with a home that has a warm and welcoming feel to it. This is not about decorating to your taste!
Remember to keep it simple. Check out magazines and home stores to get inspirations. If you find
it difficult, hire a home stager. It's well-worth the cost!!

Back-in-the-day, selling a home used to be easy. Call the realtor, research the competition and put a "For Sale" sign on your lawn. Not anymore. Buyers have become savvy. HGTV has educated buyers. They want a move-in-ready home. If you don't prep your home before you put it on the market, I guarantee you are just helping your competitors sell theirs!! Just think of it like detailing your car!! Consider hiring a home stager. A professional will give you an unbiased opinion of what needs to be addressed!!

At Abella Home Staging & Redesign, we believe any home can be beautifully transformed. We believe in delivering a custom-made look, but without the custom-made price tag!! Call us and let's get started today!!

Up and coming color trends!!

What is the up and coming color trends? According to Pantone, there are 4 color palettes that are emerging strong. So what are they?

1. Ephemeral. We are going to see a lot of pastels.  There is a move towards softer colors. The world has become a much more stressful place. People are looking for a way to destress, and color is one way to achieve that. Rooms that are painted in pastels have a quiet, calming, relax effect. Pastels will be seen in just about everything, from fashion, to accessories, to appliances.

2. Bijou. Think jewel tones, amethyst, violet. Metallic finishes, think sheen, iridescent, pearlized finishes. This is just about finishes and the material being used will have a great impact on the finish.

3. Footloose. This is a palette about nature. It's about kicking back, relaxing and bring the garden indoors. Think flower colors, blue, green, yellow, orange, taupes.

4. Mix Bag. Technology today has made the world a smaller place. Cultures are blending. Think bright bold colors. This isn't just a trend, this is life and it's here to stay. Global eclectic mix. A good global mix is almost unidentifiable. You shouldn't be able to identify the culture.

What do you think of this up and coming color trend? Can you see yourself doing any of these palettes? Which one is your favorite? One thing for sure, people are being bolder then ever. Gone are the days when you would buy furniture and keep it 20-30 years, like our parents and grandparents did. We have become a disposable generation, which may not be a bad thing when it comes to design and color! It keeps our design young and fresh and I like that!!

Revamping your Old Kitchen Cabinets

Revamping your old kitchen cabinets isn't as difficult as you may think. As a decorator and home stager, I get asked this question a lot, "What can I do to update my kitchen, without spending a lot of money?" There are a few solution that you can do to update your kitchen, without the heavy expense of remodeling.

The easiest and by far least expensive, is to paint them!

Add beadboard to flat paneled door. Then paint it.

Remember these cabinets? Very trendy in the eighties, but so outdated now!! Using 2" wood strip, it completely changed the look of the cabinets!! Loved how they turned out.

Don't want to spend money on beadboard? Use paintable beadboard wallpaper. Easier to cut, same great effect!!

Use half-round decorative molding to achieve this look. Then paint it any color you want!!

As you can see, there are many ways to update the look of your kitchen cabinets, without blowing the budget. Takes a little time, but the results are simply amazing!! And with all the money you just saved, you can splurge on the backsplash or counter, maybe even both!! For more information on these projects, check out Pinterest.
